You are also paying £450 for years ahead of 'new' games too that are 'built' to use the full features of the Console. You are not paying £450 to do all this, this is just 1 part of what it offers. its the same with games that say 30/60fps but rarely hit that level - especially in high action areas when you need that frame rate the most - and now it will. It may be considered a 1080/2160p game but the reality maybe it spends the vast majority of the game at 720-900p or 1440-1800p but with the Series S/X, it will run consistently at the highest level. What this means is that the resolution drops or in some cases, never really runs at the 'full' resolution. If you look at XB1 games, a LOT use Dynamic Resolution scaling as well as unlocked frame rates. The XB1X has 12x Anisotropic Filtering built in and Series S/X adds HDR to certain titles that it works well on too. Believe it or not, a LOT of games were not 'locked' to 30 or 60fps but now play so smoothly thanks to the extra power in modern consoles. These are ALL improvements, beyond just playing the same games at the exact same level as if you were playing them on the original hardware.

There are some games that offer 4k on Xbox One X which were obviously only 720p on Xbox 360 and MS are looking to bring 'higher' frame rates too so a capped 30fps game could run at 60fps instead without needing a Developer to patch in a new, higher frame rate cap. What about auto HDR? What about improved Anisotropic Filtering - making textures look much better and cleaner at angles instead of a blurry mess? All those are 'built' in improvements from the start just by being a much more powerful system and MS's 'work' on Backwards Compatibility.
now we're just waiting for that dedicated next-gen footage!
There's little doubt that the Xbox Series X is going to be the best way to play your backwards compatible Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles this holiday. This is pretty interesting considering that the majority of tests so far have shown that load times aren't drastically different with original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles, but even loading in the emulator takes significantly longer. Just tested how long it takes to load the 360 emulator across Xbox One, One X & Xbox Series X at the same time.
We've been seeing a lot of reports over the past week about how quickly the Xbox Series X can load backwards compatible games compared to the Xbox One, and this even extends to the Xbox 360 emulator itself.Īs demoed by the world's first Gamerscore millionaire Stallion83 on Twitter, you barely get any kind of splash screen whatsoever on the Series X before the Xbox 360 boot screen loads in, while the original Xbox One and the Xbox One X take around 15 seconds longer to even get into the game.
